1.13.3. Course objectives

1.14. Course contents
An information session will take place at the beginning of the course. Students must inform the coordinator of the Master on the date indicated of:
- Their decision to carry out an internship / research project
- Their preferences for an institution at which to undertake the internship / the subject of the research project and their preferred academic tutor
The coordinator of the Master’s will award the internship place taking into account the preferences of the student, the adaptation of their profile to the places offered, acceptance by the host institution, and the availability of places.
A. Internship
- The internship may be carried out in either national or international centers.
- In the latter case, the student may be requested to join the Erasmus + aid program (Erasmus Placement) and the advice of the Office of International Relations of the Faculty of Law.
- The internship may be curricular or extracurricular. Curricular practices will be prioritized over non-curricular practices.
- The duration of the internship is 360 hours, at times to be agreed with the collaborating center.
- Each student will have a supervisor within the collaborating center (professional tutor) and be under the tutelage of a teacher of the master's degree (academic tutor).
- The supervision of the internship will be carried out within the framework of tutorials. The student must meet with both the academic tutor and the professional tutor.
- During their stay at the institution they will carry out the activities that are the object of the training plan.
- Once the internship is finished, the student must complete the Internship Report and this will be evaluated by the academic tutor.
- Likewise, the professional tutor will send their Evaluation Report to the Master's Coordination or to a person responsible for managing the internship program.
- Tutors can download the forms to make the reports from the master's website.
- There is a rubric that must be followed for the preparation of the Report and that will be in Moodle.
- The assessment of the tutors will be taken into consideration by the members of the Master Thesis Court, that will assess both the students' abilities to verbally expound their Report on the Internship and the content of the document itself.
B. Research project
- Each student will have a supervisor within the department (academic tutor).
- The supervision of the research project will be carried out within the framework of tutorials. The student must meet with their tutor to report on the progress of the research and receive advice for the development of the work.
- During this period, the student will spend most of their time reading and writing up their work, following the guidelines of their tutor and a rubric available in Moodle.
- The research project will be evaluated by the academic tutor, who will send their evaluation report to the Master's Coordination and to the members of the court appointed to judge the work.
- The assessment of the tutor will be taken into consideration by the members of the court appointed to judge the work, which will assess both the students' abilities to verbally expound their Master's thesis and the content of the document itself.

3. Evaluation procedures and weight of components in the final grade
3.1. Regular assessment
A. Internship:
1. Object:
- The student must attend the introductory seminar organized by the Coordinator of the Master’s and / or by the person in charge of managing the internship program.
- The student must complete 360 hours of practice at the designated institution.
- The student will prepare a Report on the Internship (90 hours). There is a rubric (Moodle) that must be followed for its preparation.
2. Final grade:
The student will have a tutor from the UAM (the Academic Tutor) and a tutor at the institution where they do the internship (the Professional Tutor). The final grade (equivalent to 18 credits) will be awarded by the Academic Tutor based on monitoring carried out during the internship period and the report issued by the Professional Tutor. The evaluation will be included in the Academic Tutor's Report and in the Professional Tutor's Report.
The title of Master of Democracy and Government is accepted, in general and mandatory, the qualification system of by Royal Decree 1125/2003 of September 5, 2003, which establishes the European credit system and the qualification system in university degrees.
3. Requirements for passing the course:
- Attendance at practices and tutorials is compulsory.
- A favorable report from the academic and professional tutors.
- The preparation of the Practicum Report and its deposit with the Secretary of the Department (four copies) and upload of the digital version in the Moodle "Master's Final Project" within the deadlines established for each call (July / September).
These deadlines are published in the Master's Academic Calendar. In the event that the causes of failure to do this are justified, the student may be given a new deadline for completion of the Report and may defend it before the Defense Court convened in July of the following academic year.
B. Research Project
1. Object:
- The student must attend the introductory seminar.
- The student will elaborate a thesis. This must be unpublished and original, deal with a subject of relevant interest in the field of Political Science, meet the methodological requirements of a research work in the field of Social Sciences, and have the corresponding bibliographic and, where appropriate, empirical support.
- There is a rubric that must be followed for the elaboration of the Thesis.
2. Final grade:
The final grade (equivalent to 18 credits) will be awarded by the Academic Tutor based on monitoring carried out during the research period. Said evaluation will be included in the Academic Tutor's Report, a form for which can be downloaded from the Master's website.

Plagiarism Warning
The Department of Political Science and International Relations will not tolerate any case of plagiarism or copying – or active or passive collaboration with this type of fraudulent practice – either in exams or in any type of work carried out by students. The reproduction of paragraphs from texts of authorship different from that of the student (Internet, books, articles, works of colleagues ...) will be considered plagiarism, when the original source from which they come is not cited. If this type of practice is detected, the sanction will consist of a fail in the subject and the student being requested to bring their academic record before the Dean or, where appropriate, the Rector of the University. The initiation of this procedure will have consequences for obtaining the Master's degree.
